MotionlabPDX Says Farewell to Two Portland Ballet Student

MotionlabPDX said farewell to two Portland ballet students this summer.

Jakob and Veronica (pictured above) have been cross conditioning their bodies using the GYROTONIC® Method for the past year. The GYROTONIC® Method allowed them to rehabilitate from their injuries and gain strength, increase range of motion and maintain flexibility. Conditioning the dancer as an athlete and as an artist is a mind-body exercise. Core strength, flexibility, balance, alignment and breathing need to come together in a balanced way. The GYROTONIC® Method, over time, provides us all with this.

Jakob (age 14) was a student of the Russian Ballet Academy, recently opened by Artur and Cynthia Sultanov. He has since been accepted to the Kirov Ballet Academy in Washington, D.C.  Jakob needed to condition his body in order to perfect his dance positions. The GYROTONIC® Method helped to correct his alignment and show him how to approach ballet movements in a smart way. When asked how the GYROTONIC® Method was for him Jakob said, “It feels so natural for the body to do the GYROTONIC® Method, it teaches you how to breathe, move, and organically find your strength. It’s all about the movement.”

Veronica (age 15) was trained at Vaganova school of ballet in St. Petersburg, Russia and attended Portland Ballet last year. She has since been accepted to the San Francisco Ballet School. Due to her injuries she needed to strengthen her body to prepare for her placement with the prestigious San Francisco Ballet School.  She began the GYROTONIC® Method training with Yelena Foley in July of 2011.

Yelena Foley and everyone at Motionlab PDX wish Jakob and Veronica all the best.
